We all want what’s best for our children and many of us are willing to give up most everything for them; yet you might be doing both you and your children a disservice while doing so.  It’s time to realize that if you want to raise healthy humans, you have got to start with yourself.

-not aesthetically but how you are feeling mentally and physically-all mirrors set aside

-how do you feel in your own body, in your soul  (good, important, content, what word are you conjuring up about yourself right now).  What words are you speaking aloud about yourself?  Or to others?  Are you providing nourishing words for growth and expansion?  (think about compliments)

-Negative words (than you need to take more time for yourself)

-How do you feel physically, when you move do you feel pain, are you achy, stiff, tired?  All of these can be seen and felt from others and these are making imprints on our children.  So be aware of how you are moving and again if the words that came to mind are more negative than that is something you need to work on.

Depending on the age of your children you may not see it now but they are watching and learning from us.  Some of the littlest things you are doing right now to encourage your children to live healthier lives may show up years from now but know that they are watching.

I hope you enjoyed our first podcast.  I understand that you are here because you want to make a difference in your families life and I promise you I will providing you with some great tips over the coming episodes but I really wanted to stress the importance of how it truly all begins with you taking care of yourself.  And with that, I also want to provide you with an actionable and doable tip each week that relates to this podcast that you are able to practice throughout the week, so this week let’s focus on how we feel in our body, mentally and physically; because awareness is the first step to lead us to making positive changes.    And I would love for you to share with me some of the words that came to mind when you think about this.

Hi, I'd like to welcome you to raising healthy humans. I am your host Courtney, a personal trainer and health coach, and the founder of formfit. a community where I help busy moms move more. As a busy and sometimes overwhelmed mom of three myself, I understand that it can be difficult to find ways to live and raise Healthy Families. It is my goal to help provide you with the information and tactics you need to help raise healthy humans. Raising healthy humans, Episode One, it starts with you. We all want what's best for our children, and many of us are willing to give up pretty much everything for ourselves for them. Yet, you might be doing both you and your children a disservice while doing so it's time to realize that if you want to raise healthy humans, you have got to start with yourself. So I don't mean aesthetically. But rather I want you to think about how you are feeling mentally and physically. All mirror set aside, the scale thrown out the window? How do you feel in your own body? Take a moment sit with yourself. And think, how do you feel in your own body in your soul? What words are you conjuring up about yourself right now? What words? Do you speak aloud about yourself, with your family, or to others? Do you provide nourishing words for growth and expansion when you talk about yourself? Or do you play small? One thing I think about in regards to this is taking compliments when someone compliments us. If you think about your child, and you were to say, Oh, you look so pretty or handsome today. If they came back to you and said, Oh, I woke up you know, I didn't have a chance to do my hair. And you know, I'm so tired. You would like a little literally laugh, right? But we do this all the time we say these things when someone compliments us. Think about what your children say when you say you look so pretty today. I say thank you. They're excited about it. They say thank you, they receive it, they're willing to receive it. So how are you being when other people say things to you? Or how do you speak about yourself? Also, how do you feel physically? When you move? Do you feel pain? Are you achy, stiff, and tired. All of these things can be seen and felt from others, and they're making imprints on our children. So be aware of how you are moving. And again, if the words that came to mind about your movement and how you feel physically are more negative, then that's something you need to work on. And as a busy overwhelmed mom myself, I understand it can be really difficult to figure out how to take some time for yourself. So I want to start with some of the basic things and you probably heard them time and time again. But make sure that you are drinking half of your body weight in ounces each and every day. And one thing I like to do to kind of start off my day is I set a glass of water on my bedside table in the evening. And when I wake up in the morning, that is the first thing I drink before I even get out of bed. So I ensure that I'm getting that first glass of water in before the days even begun. So that and you know then always carrying a water bottle with me throughout the day will help to ensure that I'm getting the recommended ounces of water each day. Make sure you are moving every single day. And I'm going to talk more about this in a nother episode but I want you to really pay attention to how you think about exercise and movement. Because even though they aren't the same, I want you to look at movement, just as important as exercise, and possibly even more important than exercise. So movement is just making sure that you're getting up, you're moving, going for walks, playing with your children, doing things that keep you active. And honestly, for those people who have toddlers, that is like the definition of movement, because you are pretty much going nonstop, right? Like you're constantly having to chase after them to make sure that they're not getting into things. They're constantly needing snacks, they constantly need to be changed. So that's the type of movement I'm talking about making sure you're up and moving around every single day. The other thing is making sure that you are eating protein and fat at every meal, which again, I will go over more in some upcoming episodes. Sleep is another really important thing, you want to make sure you're getting seven to eight hours of sleep. Obviously, if you have a little one, you are not in that season of life of being able to get seven to eight hours of sleep. But we need to work on getting more restful sleep. And you know, maybe taking naps as well. And the biggest thing is committing to yourself that you are going to take care of yourself. And by committing to yourself, you are taking that foundational step to raising healthy children. Because depending on the age of your children, you may not see it now. But they are watching and learning from everything we do. Some of the littlest things you are doing right now to encourage your children to live healthier lives may show up years from now. But know that they are watching you, and they're taking it in and you're not going to see it, you may not see it for years to come. My son is a perfect example of this. I have spoken to him about food and nutrition and how we should nourish our bodies. And every day, because he's older, he'll come home and he'll grab pretzels. And I'll just keep saying over and over again, about the fruit bowl and you know, making sure that you can eat, you can eat those snacks, but make sure that when you eat those snacks, you're also eating a fruit or vegetable because we have to eat are healthier with every meal. And, you know, I have watched him for quite a few years in his teen years where he always goes for the pretzels, he does not go for the carrots, he does not go for the banana. But he is now in high school sports. And he came home the other day. And instead of getting the smoothie that he normally likes with just strawberries and bananas in it. He asked me to add some avocado, some kale, and a little bit of that collagen powder that you use mom. So they are watching, I promise you, they are watching and they're picking up on the little things. So make sure you commit to yourself. And with that, I hope you enjoyed our first podcast. I understand that you're here because you want to make a difference in your family's life. And I promise you I'm going to be providing you with some great tips over the coming episodes. But I really wanted to stress the importance of how it truly all begins with you taking care of yourself first. I also want to provide you with an actionable and doable tip each and every week so that you can start making strides to living a healthier life for yourself and your children. So the actionable step I want you to take in relation to this podcast is take a moment. Think about how you feel in your body both physically and mentally. And share with us whether you join our form fit mom community or You, private message me or email me? Let me know. What are some of the words that come to mind when you think about that, when you think about how you feel in your body, because awareness is the first step to lead us to making positive changes.
