When you wear your shoes your feet will move differently.  Today I provide you with an exercise that you can do to test this theory out.  Head outside and see for yourself how the foot moves when you run with and without a shoe on.

It is always my goal to help you and your family move more. So every Thursday, I am dropping a movement snack into your ears to help you and your family move more. This week's movement snack, I want you to practice this fascial line move where it has you lengthening the fascial line that goes from your foot all the way up to your basically your tongue. So what we are going to do is you will need to stand up. And you can do this now, or you can do this on your own time. And you're going to squat down. So if you think about like you're getting ready to go sit into a chair, you're going to stick your butt back, squatting down, reaching your hands all the way down towards the floor. And then when you come up, you're going to kind of swing your arms up over your head. And rather than just reaching for the sky, I want you to think extend open. So we're thinking ribs lift up towards the sky in this position is a position that we do not get in enough. For many of us, we spend our day rounded, whether it be working, driving, breastfeeding, doing anything with your children, this rounded position has become a cultural thing, we just tend to do it naturally. And therefore our back doesn't get into extension a lot. So we need to work on creating a little bit more extension in our life, just so that we can continue to open and be able to move through that spine. So this is a great exercise, I usually I actually have my clients do this as a warmup for our fitness classes, where you just reach down and you lift up, it is not fast, it is just a comfortable movement. And it's great for everyone. I also work with the community of women who have multiple sclerosis. And this is a great exercise for them as well. It just kind of helps you work through that fascial line. And you'll feel better when you do this. You can even create an extension of this, where you then also as you're reaching up, you can also think about lengthening the tongue down the chin. Now this is not something I do in my fitness classes. But if you've ever done a yoga class, I think it's like Lion Pose or something where they have you open your mouth and stick your tongue out. It has to do with the fascial line, it's opening everything up. It is a great exercise for you to be able to practice. And it just helps you feel more centered would be what I would think the word would be. So give this a try. Maybe try 10 of them. If you're really confused as to what I'm talking about.
